Theo Ruth TONGUE chair
Absolute rareness which you won't come across easely! This chair has been, professionaly, re-uphulstered in a lovely "cobalt blue" wool with the so called Ploeg fabric. This chair is most likely designed Theo Ruth for Wagemans & Van Tuinen in de mid 1950's. Wagemans & Van Tuinen lateron became Artifort. From 1936 Theo Ruth became the permanent designer onto the late 1950's. The heavy stainless steel frame shows an imprint from a round (manifacturer) sticker or a piece paper from years a ago. It is to easy to say this chair is a prototype but we can say this must have been the precursor of the Tongue chair designed by Pierre Paulin. The massive metal frame is simular to the frames of the Wagemans & Van Tuinen settee that is in our position. The chair of that settee (with the fabric cow upholstery) is displayed on our site. But untill now we didn't see anything like this! An absolute high-end chair that will be an asset to nearly every modern essemble. Origin: Dutch. Year: 1955 - 1960.
