name
  Arie Huisman De Stijl desk
description
Sober and unique "De Stijl" desk. Looking to the structure how this desk is build up with clean lines and junctions the similarities are stricking with the "Crate" desk by Gerrit Rietveld. Arie Huisman was a furniture designer and owner of a store called interior architecture "De Ploeg" which was located at the Breestraat 20 in Leiden. Not only his own furniture was displayed in his store. For instants Bertha Bake, one of the first woman furniture designers and wellknown batik artist in Holland, was showcasing her small furniture and batik works in the "De Ploeg" store. De Ploeg can be seen as one of the first Arts & Crafts movements in the city of Leiden. In the museum "De Lakenhal" in Leiden there are only furniture drawings by his hand in there archive. As far we as know this is one of the few (or only) furniture pieces comming from his hand and comming out of a private collection. We bought it from the first owner. To be continued - in research.
