  Modernist lunchroom table
description
Fabulous "de Stijl" modernist related lunchroom/terrace table coming from the famous restaurant (Heck's) "Popularis" at Rembrandtplein nr. 2 in Amsterdam. This lunchroom came to be furnished around 1928. Between 1923 and 1964, Heck and Ruteck's became a notion in Holland. It is fair to say that this company learned the Dutch public to eat outdoors. An important part of its popularity was the free entertainment. A lot of wellknown Dutch entertainers started there career at Heck's. All Heck's cafetaria's were designed by wellknown designers of the modernist movement, like Gerrit Rietveld, J.J.P. Oud and others. This design has many similarities with the works of J.J.P. Oud and Gerrit Rietveld. On the sixth (6) picture displayed on this page you can see the famous Heck's "Popularis" in full front. This picture was taken around 1927. Dimensions: D x W x H = 55 x 75 x 72,5 cm. Origin: Dutch. Year: 1927/1928.
