Hein Salomonson modernist dining table
Very rare modernist dining table designed by the Dutch architect and furniture designer Hein Salomonson for AP Originals (A. Polak's meubelindustrie in Hilversum.) about 1955. A. Polak had a showroom in Amsterdam where furniture, in small editions, called AP Originals, was sold. Hein Salomonson is seen as the compeer of Gerrit Rietveld after 1945. That's why (not without reason) Gerrit Rietveld gave him permission, when Hein Salomonson asked him so, to do some adjustments on one of the villa's designed by Rietveld. "If someone may touch it, it is you" Gerrit should have said. Hein Salomonson was influenced by Mart Stam, JJP Oud and Le Corbusier (for whom he worked for 4 months as a draftsman). He was a modernist par excellence of which this table is a good example. Much of his work has been forgotten, demolished or rebuilt. Part of his designs - along with Gerrit Rietveld - includes the progressive "open" showroom for the exclusive furniture store Metz & Co in 1949 in Amsterdam. He designed furniture for Metz & Co, Goed Wonen and AP Originals. Fortunately his work is becoming more and more in interest of collectors and musea. A part of the original paper sticker of AP Originals is still visible on the downside of the worksheet. Dimensions: W x D x H = 120 x 75 x 72,5 cm. Year: 1955. origin: Dutch.
