name
  Jaap Penraat small bookcase
description
Very rare assembly kit bookcase designed by Jaap Penraat. Its sober, not to big and cheap. Just what the Dutch middle class needed when building op Holland after the 2nd world war. Because the houses were build small and the wages simular to the houses, meaning small, furniture of this kind was more then welcome. You could say that this bookcase is made in the pre-IKEA era but with the same underlying idea. These bookcases are very hard to find because the were made of cheap multiplex and didn't last long (approx 5 to 10 years). This type is with very thin sliding doors which was a special feature. "Less is more" is written all over it! Dimensions: W122 x H84 x D25 cm. Year: early 1950's. Origin: Dutch.
