name
  Early UMS dining table
description
Extremely rare sober and colorfull designed Dutch Modernist dining table. Made by UMS (Utrechtse Machinale Stoelen en meubelfabriek). Because there is little documentation known (or gone lost) these items from this period are hard to get documented. However we discovered the table in a book about UMS early days; "UMS PasToe - Een Nederlandse meubelfabriek 1913-1983" by Centraal Museum Utrecht. A picture of a diningroom set is displayed in the 6th picture. In the 1950's the company name was changed into UMS/PasToe of which Cees Braakman became the most important designer for the following two decades. The table upper is made of red melamine which was uncommon to use in the furniture industry and therefor very progressive. This extendable table comes to full length by pulling the two sliding parts to each side of the table. Dimensions: L x D x H = 114 x 89 x 77 cm. Fully extended: 203 cm. Year: 1937/38. Origin: Dutch
